Links of interest to members

NSW Grassland Society members are reminded that the main website contains a useful list of links that may be of interest to those involved in the grazing/pastoral industries. This list of links is divided into a number of categories and is a convenient place to find websites of various seed and fertiliser companies, government and industry/research organisations as well as weather and other portal sites.

If you have any suggestions for additions to this list, please contact the website administrator.

Those of you who look at the 10 day rainfall map provided by the IGER will have noticed that it has been unavailable over the last couple of weeks. These forecasts have just been moved to a new location so if you have bookmarked this site, you may need to correct it to the new address. This also applies to the 6 day forecasts provided by the same organisation.

We have also put in a new link to the Australian Farming Virtual Library - a collection of links relating to anything agricultural - well worth a look as there might be a useful link in there that you have not yet discovered.

Please contact us if you have any suggestions for the website generally or if you are having trouble logging in to the member resource area.
Cheers for now from the website administration team

Supplementary Feeding information

The Supplementary Feeding Field Days held at Guyra and Deepwater recently offred Grassland Society members a great deal of useful information on the principles of supplementary feeding. Hopefully many of you will have received useful rain in recent weeks, however, the cold temperatures limiting pasture growth means that supplementary feeding will still be a fact of life on many farms over the next few months. The committee of the Northern Tablelands Branch of the Grassland Society of NSW has kindly allowed much of the resouce material presented at these field days to be published on the main grasslands website.

The publishing job is still underway and should be finished in the next week. For those of you keen for a sneak preview, click here to open a PDF file containing Lewis Kahn's excellent presentation on the principles of supplementary feeding or Michael Lollback's comprehensive presentation on supplementary feeding and sheep production. Both of these presentations contain very useful information here for all graziers when making difficult feeding decisions. Please note that the information appearing in these notes is general in nature and more specific information should be sought from the author or your advisor. These files are stored in the Members Only area of the NSW Grassland Society website so you may be asked to login before accessing the files. Please contact us if you are having trouble logging into the members only resource section of the website.

Website Login Upgrade

Announcing that the upgrade of the login system on the main website is now complete. The login system has been moved over to a server-side system which is more secure, much faster in response and allows you to save your login details. Unfortunately, this required all the usernames and passwords to be re-entered into the system so please check your login works and let us know if you are having trouble - it may be a simple typo error when re-entering the data.

IMPORTANT = the new system requires that different usernames be used so if you share a surname with another member, you may need to add an underscore and your first initial to your old username - eg. John Smith would log in as smith_j
Passwords remain the same with your 4 digit membership number being used here.

However, if you are having trouble logging in, please contact us immediately so we can check your details have been entered in correctly and assist you to access the website member resource area. If you do not know your login details, a full list is held with the website administrator and the Society Secretary - see the Contact page on the website for email links.

The Search Function has also been upgraded so that the newsletter pdf files are now indexed directly from the search page. This will allow you to find the relevant information much faster. The "Green Book" of grass, legume and herb cultivars for 2003-2004 has been published on the website as a handy reference for anyone interested in new pasture varieties. More information will be published as soon as it comes to hand (eg. past conference proceedings) so stay tuned for more developments on this. Please let us know if you have any suggestions as to how to improve the website and what information you would like to see online.

thank you for your patience and hoping that rain comes your way very soon,

Website Maintenance

Just announcing that that the main Grassland Society website will be unavailable over the next 24-48 hours while necessary server maintenance is being done. We will be up and running as soon as possible. You may notice some glitches with missing images until all the files have been re-uploaded. We are also refining the password login system - some users who share surnames may need to add their first initial to their login name - you will be notified if this affects you.
